iGadget X and iRepo X updated
Posted by Shadow on 29 July 2013

The Playlist Transfer plugins of iGadget X and iRepo X have been updated with a new release of these Mac applications. This update allows playlists to be recreated in iTunes from a playlist on the iPod, iPhone or iPad with the tracks appearing in the same order in the iTunes playlist as on the playlist of the device. Also, now playlists can be recreated with duplicate tracks in a single playlists. With prior versions, if a playlist on the iPod, iPhone, or iPad had multiple copies of the same track, it would only add that track once to the playlist in iTunes.<p>

We've also updated the Gas Prices plugin of the iGadget X application to take into account changes in the source site.

iGadget and iGadget X updated
Posted by Shadow on 17 January 2013

New versions of iGadget and iGadget X have just been released. This release updates the Horoscope and Movie Showtime plugins to take into account changes in the source sites that caused these plugins to no longer work and possibly cause crashes to the program. We also had to remove the Driving Directions plugin as that source site changed as well but it changed in such a way that we are no longer able to access it from within a plugin. So, Driving Directions will no longer be a part of iGadget or iGadget X. However, if we find a source site that can work, we may be able to offer a driving directions plugin again in the future.

iGadget, iRepo & TuneJack updated
Posted by Shadow on 9 May 2012

We just released new versions of iGadget, iRepo and TuneJack. This is only for the Windows versions of these applications.

This update adds a new feature called "Super Rescue Playlist" in iGadget and iRepo and called "Super Rescue Tracks" in TuneJack.

There is something called iTunesDB which is the list of tracks on the device that has been there since the first iPod. This iTunesDB is what iTunes itself continues to use so it knows what tracks are on the device.

But, with the release of iOS 5, iPhones, iPads and iPod touch devices now have two "databases" that contain the list of tracks on the device. They still have the iTunesDB which iTunes itself still uses but these device now also have another "Media Library" database. This "Media Library" database is what the device itself uses to know what is on it.

What we have learned is that sometimes the iTunesDB gets corrupted and iTunes no longer sees all the tracks that are actually on the device. And, since our applications were also using this iTunesDB, they also could not see the missing tracks.

But, with these new releases, our applications now also use the new "Media Library" database. So, even if your device has a corrupted iTunesDB and iTunes cannot see all your tracks, our applications can still see those tracks and thus allow you to recover those tracks from your device.

As far as we know, our applications are the only ones that offer this type of feature!

iGadget X and iRepo X updated
Posted by Shadow on 27 April 2011

One of the most common support questions regards why a non-touch iPod does not show up in the list of devices. This is almost always because the iPod has not been setup with "disk use" enabled. So, I have now added a help button in iGadget X and iRepo X which displays instructions on how to enable "disk use" for the iPod.

These updates also include support for playlist folders. In the past when transferring playlists, playlist folders would transfer over simply as a large playlist. Now, playlist folders will be restored as playlist folders in iTunes.

MarkAble 2.2.5 out in Beta
Posted by David on 8 February 2010

I have released a new version of MarkAble, 2.2.5, as a Beta because I have changed quite a lot of things and I want a few user comments on it before I release it as a full version.  Use it at your own risk!  (But I've tested it quite a bit and it seems fine).

First of all, I'm proud to say that this version of MarkAble supports German-language installation and operation.  My very great thanks to Jason Selbach for his help with this process.  Any errors you encounter will be my fault, and not his.

Here are the other changes:

  • Feature: processing individual audio files can now be resumed after cancel
  • Feature: remembers last folder for source of individual audio files
  • Feature: now embeds meta-data before attempting import into iTunes library
  • Feature: changed default size and duration limits (iTunes now supports durations up to 27 hours)
  • Bug fixes: several minor fixes to AAC file processing.

iGadget, iRepo and TuneJack Updated
Posted by Shadow on 31 July 2009

iGadget, iGadget X, iRepo, iRepo X and TuneJack have all been updated.

The most important change is an update in all the applications to work with jailbroken iPhones and iPod touches that are running the 3.0 firmware.

iGadget, iGadget X, iRepo and iRepo X have all been updated to now include a "show only songs not in iTunes" checkbox on the music transfer plugin. Checking this checkbox caused the application to filter the song list to only show songs that are on the selected iPod but are not in your iTunes library. This feature was added by user request.

iGadget, iGadget X, iRepo, iRepo X and TuneJack now all have a new Support submenu under the Help menu of the application. This submenu includes a number of options that can be useful to make support easier in case you run into an issue and need to contact support. The items in this menu do not need to be used unless directed to do so by support.

Another feature requested by users has been added to iGadget X and iRepo X. This feature is already in the Windows versions of these applications. That is, you can now right-click (or control-click with a single button mouse) on the playlist listing of the Playlist Transfer plugin to display a popup menu. This menu contains options to check all the playlists and uncheck all the playlists. This makes it so you now don't have to manually check every playlist if you want to transfer them all.

With the recent release of iPhone and iPod touch 3.0 firmware by Apple, iTunes stores information on the iPhone and iPod touch differently than it did before. iRingtunes (Mac and Windows) Updated
Posted by Shadow on 25 September 2008

We just released new versions of iRingtunes and iRingtunes X (Windows and Mac). These releases change the maximum ringtone length from 40 seconds to 39 seconds.

The iPhone does not allow ringtones to be any longer than 40 seconds. And, with the way the iTunes interface works, we have found that when we tell iTunes to create a clip of the song of 40 seconds long, it will sometimes create it slightly longer (something like 40.045 seconds). In these cases, iTunes will refuse to then copy the ringtone to the iPhone. To prevent this from happening, we have limited the length to 39 seconds so if iTunes goes a few miliseconds longer we will still be under the 40 second limit.

iRepo 1.0 Released
Posted by Shadow on 18 Apr 2007

This is the initial release of my new Windows application named "iRepo". iRepo is the Windows version of the recently released Mac application iRepo X.

iRepo is an easy to use iPod utility to recover songs off your iPod. It makes it effortless to copy all the songs that are on the iPod to your PC and/or to iTunes.

iRepo could be considered "TuneJack Pro" as both TuneJack and iRepo give you the ability to transfer songs and playlists from an iPod to your PC and/or iTunes. The difference is that iRepo displays an organized list of the songs on the iPod and allows you to select which songs and playlists you want to transfer from the iPod. With TuneJack, you don't get a list of songs and playlists. It simply transfers all songs and playlists from the iPod.

MarkAble 1.6.0
Posted by David on 8 Dec 2006

It's not often one announces a software 'upgrade' that in fact removes a useful feature; but I'm afraid I have to do it. iTunes 7 changed the way it handles preferences such as encoder settings, and MarkAble is therefore no longer able to modify these settings for you (mainly this was to change the bit rate of the encoder). This version of MarkAble simply acknowledges this sad fact. If I find a way of restoring the feature in future I'll certainly do so.

If you didn't rely on the feature mentioned above, then there's no reason for you to download the new version of MarkAble. (And even if you did, you don't need to download, just be aware that it no longer works!). This is a free upgrade to registered users.

The other important change is that MarkAble is now compiled under the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0. This makes it compatible with Windows Vista. If you are running an older version of Windows it's possible you may need to download the .NET 2 Framework before upgrading to MarkAble 1.6.0.

The same now goes for MarksMan, which moves to version 1.1.0. There are no functionality changes so no need to upgrade if you're currently running MarksMan 1.0.4.

MarksMan 1.0.4 Released
Posted by David on 23 Nov 2006

A free update (for registered users) is now available for MarksMan. Version 1.0.4 adds a requested feature to allow the automatic generation of a series of 'Saved Bookmarks' throughout an audiobook at a specified interval (eg every 10 mins). Like other MarksMan bookmarks, one of these can be selected and quickly applied to the iPod when it is connected to your PC. This saves tedious scrolling back and forth on the iPod to get to a particular spot.

iGadget 2.0.2 Released
Posted by Shadow on 02 Oct 2006

I have just released version 2.0.2 of iGadget.

After the release of iGadget 2.0.1 we quickly realized it only worked with iTunes 7. With earlier versions of iTunes, that version would appear to freeze during the load. This release fixes that so it will work with ealier versions of iTunes as well.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

If you've already purchased iGadget 2.0.1, please download the free upgrade here.

iGadget 2.0.1 Released
Posted by Shadow on 02 Oct 2006

I have just released version 2.0.1 of iGadget.

This is a major upgate to enable iGadget to properly work with the new iTunes 7 and the new iPods that Apple recently released (2nd generation iPod nanos and the new full sized iPods).

Please note: If you already own a copy of iGadget 1.0.4, you can purchase the upgrade to version 2.0.1 at a substantial discount. Please see the main iGadget page (link goes to Purple Ghost Software website) for details.

Other changes include the following:

  • Movie showtime plugin dates
In prior versions, the date list of the movie showtime plugins would not display correctly when the Preview pane was turned off. This has been fixed in this release.
  • Horoscope plugin dates'
In prior versions, the date list of the horoscope plugin did not display correctly when the Preview pane was turned off. This has been fixed in this release.
  • Support for new iPods'
Prior versions did not know about the new second generation iPod nanos or the updated fifth generation iPods.
  • Support for iTunes 7'
With the release of iTunes 7, Apple has removed some information from the iPod that allowed iGadget to identify what type of iPod was connected. iGadget uses this information to display the correct image in the About Your iPod plugin as well as to determine the capabilities of the iPod. With the change to iTunes 7, it has made it more difficult to determine the iPod model. This version now uses a new method to determine the iPod model.
  • Properly identifies the new 1GB iPod nano'
Prior versions didn't know about the new 1GB iPod nano and thus reported them as the original 1G iPod.
  • Check for Updates function'
With prior versions, the Check for Updates function (from the Help menu) was only able to download updates to the plugins. With this version, updates to the main application as well as the plugins can now be downloaded and installed automatically.
