Apps updated to work with iTunes 7.3
Posted by Shadow on 05 July 2007
With the release of iTunes 7.3 Apple made changes to the way things were written to the iPod. This ended up causing the Purple Ghost applications (iGadget, iRepo, TuneJack, iGadget X and iRepo X) to not be able to see the songs on the iPod. These applications have now all been updated to work with iTunes 7.3.

MarkAble 1.6.2 Released
Posted by David on 18 May 2007
Version 1.6.2 of MarkAble now includes support for converting UNprotected WMA files to bookmarking audiobooks. Load these files or folders into MarkAble using the + or ++ buttons, click on "Rip All", then after conversion, "Merge All".
NB: iTunes will not convert PROTECTED WMA files, that is, ones which have digital rights management (DRM), so neither can MarkAble.
Also a minor bug fix (I hope!) to an issue which seemed to be preventing Quick Converted tracks being marked as bookmarkable on a few people's systems .

MarksMan 1.2.0 Bugfix
Posted by David on 24 Apr 2007
Fixes a bug introduced by the latest version of iTunes preventing MarksMan from reading the iTunes database on the iPod.
While I'm here, it's worth clearing up what MarksMan does:
MarksMan does NOT create chapter stops in audiobooks through which you can navigate when your iPod is away from the computer.
MarksMan DOES allow you to save bookmark positions ON YOUR COMPUTER to which the iPod can be directed to reset its current bookmark while it's connected to your computer. When you disconnect the iPod, the changed bookmark will apply when you begin listening.
iRepo 1.0 Released
Posted by Shadow on 18 Apr 2007
This is the initial release of my new Windows application named "iRepo". iRepo is the Windows version of the recently released Mac application iRepo X.
iRepo is an easy to use iPod utility to recover songs off your iPod. It makes it effortless to copy all the songs that are on the iPod to your PC and/or to iTunes.
iRepo could be considered "TuneJack Pro" as both TuneJack and iRepo give you the ability to transfer songs and playlists from an iPod to your PC and/or iTunes. The difference is that iRepo displays an organized list of the songs on the iPod and allows you to select which songs and playlists you want to transfer from the iPod. With TuneJack, you don't get a list of songs and playlists. It simply transfers all songs and playlists from the iPod.

MarkAble 1.6.0
Posted by David on 8 Dec 2006
It's not often one announces a software 'upgrade' that in fact removes a useful feature; but I'm afraid I have to do it. iTunes 7 changed the way it handles preferences such as encoder settings, and MarkAble is therefore no longer able to modify these settings for you (mainly this was to change the bit rate of the encoder). This version of MarkAble simply acknowledges this sad fact. If I find a way of restoring the feature in future I'll certainly do so.
If you didn't rely on the feature mentioned above, then there's no reason for you to download the new version of MarkAble. (And even if you did, you don't need to download, just be aware that it no longer works!). This is a free upgrade to registered users.
The other important change is that MarkAble is now compiled under the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0. This makes it compatible with Windows Vista. If you are running an older version of Windows it's possible you may need to download the .NET 2 Framework before upgrading to MarkAble 1.6.0.
The same now goes for MarksMan, which moves to version 1.1.0. There are no functionality changes so no need to upgrade if you're currently running MarksMan 1.0.4.
MarksMan 1.0.4 Released
Posted by David on 23 Nov 2006
A free update (for registered users) is now available for MarksMan. Version 1.0.4 adds a requested feature to allow the automatic generation of a series of 'Saved Bookmarks' throughout an audiobook at a specified interval (eg every 10 mins). Like other MarksMan bookmarks, one of these can be selected and quickly applied to the iPod when it is connected to your PC. This saves tedious scrolling back and forth on the iPod to get to a particular spot.
iGadget 2.0.4 Released

I have just released version 2.0.4 of iGadget.
This release now properly identifies even more iPods and fixes a bug that would cause some songs not to be transferred to playlists when using the Playlist Transfer plugin.

iGadget 2.0.2 Released
Posted by Shadow on 02 Oct 2006
I have just released version 2.0.2 of iGadget.
After the release of iGadget 2.0.1 we quickly realized it only worked with iTunes 7. With earlier versions of iTunes, that version would appear to freeze during the load. This release fixes that so it will work with ealier versions of iTunes as well.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
If you've already purchased iGadget 2.0.1, please download the free upgrade here.

iGadget 2.0.1 Released
Posted by Shadow on 02 Oct 2006
I have just released version 2.0.1 of iGadget.
This is a major upgate to enable iGadget to properly work with the new iTunes 7 and the new iPods that Apple recently released (2nd generation iPod nanos and the new full sized iPods).
Please note: If you already own a copy of iGadget 1.0.4, you can purchase the upgrade to version 2.0.1 at a substantial discount. Please see the main iGadget page (link goes to Purple Ghost Software website) for details.
Other changes include the following:
- Movie showtime plugin dates
In prior versions, the date list of the movie showtime plugins would not display correctly when the Preview pane was turned off. This has been fixed in this release. - Horoscope plugin dates'
In prior versions, the date list of the horoscope plugin did not display correctly when the Preview pane was turned off. This has been fixed in this release. - Support for new iPods'
Prior versions did not know about the new second generation iPod nanos or the updated fifth generation iPods. - Support for iTunes 7'
With the release of iTunes 7, Apple has removed some information from the iPod that allowed iGadget to identify what type of iPod was connected. iGadget uses this information to display the correct image in the About Your iPod plugin as well as to determine the capabilities of the iPod. With the change to iTunes 7, it has made it more difficult to determine the iPod model. This version now uses a new method to determine the iPod model. - Properly identifies the new 1GB iPod nano'
Prior versions didn't know about the new 1GB iPod nano and thus reported them as the original 1G iPod. - Check for Updates function'
With prior versions, the Check for Updates function (from the Help menu) was only able to download updates to the plugins. With this version, updates to the main application as well as the plugins can now be downloaded and installed automatically.

MarkAble : another iTunes 7 problem
Posted by Boffin on 28 Sept 2006
iTunes version 7 has caused another unexpected problem with MarkAble. Files converted using MarkAble's 'Podcast' option no longer appear in the Podcast folder in iTunes. Though they can be located using a smart playlist, and play correctly if so, the fact that they can't be otherwise found in iTunes 7 means that they cannot be removed from your iPod.
I therefore strongly recommend against using the podcast option in MarkAble until I have resolved why iTunes is treating the files this way.
In fact, I've now released version 1.5.3 of MarkAble which disables the podcast option - however, there's really no need to download this update if you never use the podcast option (and if you do, this new version merely avoids any accidental use of the feature).
I regret this problem and the other difficulties recently experienced with iTunes 7; but Apple, I'm afraid, doesn't consult with me before releasing a new version of iTunes!
MarkAble and iTunes 7
Posted by Boffin on 22 Sept 2006
The latest version of iTunes (version 7) caused an error to occur in the MarkAble Audio CD Wizard and some problems for foreign language users.
I've now addressed these problems and you can download version 1.5.2 from the MarkAble home page here. This is a free upgrade for registered users.
